Teen mental health check-ins.

Updated: Jul 23

Putting in place in place weekly mental health check-ins with your teen for pro-active support can be a great way to get ready for the beginning of the school year.

Doing such during summer break can be crucial to get ready for September and go back to school.

What check-ins can be put in place?

Depending on your teen's age and interests, you can either ask them directly, or ask them to write the check-ins down and scale each one.

Here is a list of topics to ask your teen:

  1. Are you currently feeling lonely?

  2. Do you feel like you can express your emotions and opinions and they are being heard?

  3. Do you feel like you are learning and exploring enough?

  4. Do you have anything to look forward to?

  5. Do you have any activity you can do that will make you feel like you have responsabilities?

The objective is for your teen to feel like they can attach to healthy adults, they can learn, and experience fun situations in life.

If your teen responds "yes" to the first question, and "no" the minimum two other questions, it will be important for you to work with them, to fix the issue, in order to prevent any mental health issue down the road.
